Fred started flying in a Cessna 140 when he was 16 years old, and got his private pilot’s license at 18.

He volunteered and was accepted into the United States Air Force at age 21, and started training in aircraft engines & mechanics. He then tested and was accepted into the airman program.

Fred is rated in many type aircraft including the C47 & C54. In 1969, he flew a CH3 “Jolly Green Giant” helicopter from bases in Thailand into Laos & Cambodia during search & rescue missions.

Fred retired from the Air Force with the rank of Major in July 1971 and moved back to the family ranch on Sonoma Mt. Road. He is now a grape grower, and makes a killer Cabernet Sauvignon wine from his own grapes.
