This is not our average Display Day, not even close in fact... that’s why we can’t even call it Display Day. This is our BIG AIRPORT SUMMER BASH!
Thanks to some dedicated volunteers, on Saturday, June 15th, 10 AM till 3 PM we have an amazing line up coming to show off their airplanes with our Petaluma community. Get up close and personal with the planes and pilots that fly them. Who doesn’t want to check out a Citation Jet or a Pilatus PC-12? We all see the FedEx planes fly in everyday, why not go check those out and talk to the pilots? More of a ground hugger… we got ya… come see over 30 Corvettes of every vintage!
But wait, there’s more! A few of our incredible first responders will be here! Ever wonder how the Sheriff’s helicopter, Henry 1, can track a car if you try and outrun them? ...well now’s the time to find out! The CHP will be here with their Airbus H125, and both choppers will have accommodating patrol ground units to complete the team effort! It wouldn’t be finished if we didn’t show representation from our local Petaluma Police, Fire, Petaluma Valley Hospital and more!
Look for the private volunteer group “Angel Med Flight”, that transports patients in need with their own aircraft. Reach Helicopter is hoping to be able to attend as well.
The EAA, Experimental Aircraft Association, is also going to be here providing “Eagle Flights” for people over 18 years of age! Know anyone that’s been wanting to take their first flight? And, for the younger generation, check out the Civil Air Patrol group from Santa Rosa… get involved starting at 12 years old!
Don’t miss the Pancake breakfast hosted by Petaluma’s own “Friends of Veterans” group… but if you do, don’t fret, we’ll have a food truck there as well, so bring your appetite! We’re even going to have a kid zone with bubbles! Who doesn’t love bubbles!? We can’t wait to show off our amazing airport community to the beautiful Petaluma community!
This is the time to bring your family and friends out! Walk around, sit inside some cool airplanes, take a lunch break under a wing of a FedEx plane. Then go learn all about how our first responders protect us and top the day off with some fun activities in the kid zone!
The enthusiasm from the sponsors has sparked a whole new excitement in our planning committee and we hope to make this event and yearly event. And grow it into something larger as a fundraiser for the scholarship.
The PAPA scholarship has been around over 45 years and has helped numerous young individuals. Recently, a 3-time recipient just became a first officer at an airline. It’s so rewarding when you get to watch a local pilot get live out his dream knowing YOU helped them get there!
This year through PAPA the scholarship committee was able to fund over $18,000!! It went to three recipients to work towards their goals. These recipients range from in high school and just starting, to halfway through their private, to working on their instrument ratings. This year, our local flight school has been kind enough to donate a few introductory flights that we can raffle off for the scholarship. But we hope to get more donations next year and have a large raffle, so we help even more aspiring young pilots reach their aviation goals!
Do you remember what first got you interested in airplanes? Was it a relative that took you flying? Was it watching a plane fly over your backyard? Was it Petaluma’s original “Penny a Pound” rides? For a lot of these young kids, it’s been coming out to the airport and watching airplanes fly around. Don’t you want to be that person for someone?
